I love hosting a live event, whether is is for an award ceremony or a charity event. As an event host I think that it is important to try and enjoy the occasion with your audience.
It is also important to get the tone right based on what the event is actually for.
I regularly host live events on stage and have used both cue cards and autocue. Its important to remember to include the entire audience and make sure you are addressing each space as you talk to them. I find cutting the room in to thirds works for me. Make sure you address the left, the centre and then the right and change it up as you are speaking.
If you are nervous about your presentation try to look above peoples heads and not directly at their faces. If you are presenting from higher up on a stage this is usually easier.
The more prepared you can be the better. Make sure you have checked how to pronounce difficult names and if you do make any mistakes just have a laugh and some fun with the audience about it. Practice your presentation in front of friends and family before you do it live if you are worried about how it might go!
Good Luck
